📖 Statement of Faith

What We Believe

Our faith is anchored in the unchanging Word of God. These timeless truths form the foundation of everything we are and everything we do at Community Life Foursquare Church.

"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."

— Hebrews 13:8 (NKJV)

The Foursquare Gospel

Our name reflects the unchanging ministry of Jesus Christ. The four squares represent four central roles of Jesus — each a pillar of our faith and mission.

01
✝️

Jesus Our Savior

Salvation Through Grace

Jesus Christ redeems humanity from sin through His sacrificial death and bodily resurrection. Through faith in Him alone, we receive forgiveness, new life, and eternal salvation — not by works, but by grace.

🕊️
02

Jesus Our Baptizer

Baptism of the Holy Spirit

Jesus baptizes believers with the Holy Spirit, empowering them with spiritual gifts and divine boldness. This experience, evidenced by speaking in tongues, equips believers for powerful, effective ministry.

🍞
03

Jesus Our Healer

Divine Healing

Jesus Christ still heals today. Physical healing, emotional restoration, and spiritual wholeness are part of the redemptive work of Christ. We pray with faith, believing God for miracles in every area of life.

👑
04

Jesus Our King

Soon-Coming King

Jesus Christ will physically and visibly return to earth in power and great glory. We live with holy urgency and joyful hope, proclaiming the gospel until that glorious day when every knee will bow.

22 Tenets of the Foursquare Church

Since our founding in 1923, the Foursquare Church has held to these 22 core tenets of faith. Though culture changes, our doctrine remains firmly anchored in God's Word.

1

The Eternal Godhead

We believe in one eternal God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — three distinct persons co-equal in nature, essence, and glory, yet one in being. The Trinity is the foundation of all Christian doctrine.

Matthew 28:19 · 2 Corinthians 13:14
2

The Scriptures Inspired

We believe the Bible — both Old and New Testaments — is the inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word of God. It is the supreme authority for all matters of faith, doctrine, and daily life.

2 Timothy 3:16–17 · 2 Peter 1:20–21
3

The Incarnation of Christ

We believe Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, took on human flesh through the miracle of the virgin birth. He is fully God and fully man — without sin — the perfect mediator between God and humanity.

Isaiah 7:14 · John 1:14 · Luke 1:35
4

The Fall of Man

We believe humanity was created in God's image and likeness, but through willful disobedience, mankind fell into sin and spiritual death, separating all people from God and bringing the need for redemption.

Genesis 3 · Romans 3:23 · Romans 5:12
5

Salvation Through Grace

We believe salvation is a free gift of God received by faith in Jesus Christ. Through His atoning death and resurrection, all who repent and believe are forgiven, justified, and born again by the Holy Spirit.

John 3:16–17 · Ephesians 2:8–9 · Romans 10:9
6

Repentance

We believe genuine repentance — turning from sin and turning to God with a changed heart — is a necessary element of salvation. True repentance produces real transformation in thought, word, and action.

Acts 2:38 · Acts 3:19 · Luke 13:3
7

Regeneration — The New Birth

We believe in the new birth — the supernatural transformation of the human spirit by the Holy Spirit. Every believer must be born again and become a new creation in Christ, living a life pleasing to God.

John 3:3–7 · 2 Corinthians 5:17 · Titus 3:5
8

Sanctification

We believe that after salvation, believers are called to live holy, consecrated lives set apart for God. Sanctification is both an instantaneous act at salvation and a lifelong process of growing in Christlikeness.

1 Thessalonians 4:3–4 · Hebrews 12:14 · 1 Peter 1:15–16
9

The Holy Spirit & His Gifts

We believe the Holy Spirit is fully God, living within every believer. He empowers, guides, and equips God's people through spiritual gifts — including tongues, prophecy, healing, and more — active for the church today.

Acts 1:8 · 1 Corinthians 12:1–11 · John 14:16–17
10

Baptism of the Holy Spirit

We believe the baptism of the Holy Spirit — with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues — is a distinct experience available to all believers, empowering them for bold witness and fruitful service in God's kingdom.

Acts 2:1–4 · Acts 10:44–46 · Luke 24:49
11

Water Baptism

We believe in water baptism by immersion as a public declaration of faith. Baptism symbolizes the believer's death to the old life of sin and resurrection to new life in Christ — an outward sign of an inward transformation.

Matthew 28:19 · Acts 2:38 · Romans 6:3–4
12

The Lord's Supper

We believe in Holy Communion as a sacred ordinance commanded by Jesus. The bread and cup memorialize His broken body and shed blood, proclaiming His death until He returns. All believers are invited to the table.

1 Corinthians 11:23–26 · Luke 22:19–20
13

Divine Healing

We believe Jesus Christ still heals today — physically, emotionally, and spiritually — through prayer offered in faith. Healing is provided in Christ's atonement and is available for every believer who calls on His name.

James 5:14–15 · Isaiah 53:5 · Mark 16:17–18
14

The Church — Body of Christ

We believe the Church is the living body of Christ on earth — all born-again believers united across nations, denominations, and generations. The local church is God's primary vehicle for discipleship, worship, and mission.

Ephesians 1:22–23 · 1 Corinthians 12:12–14 · Acts 2:42–47
15

The Ministry & Evangelism

We believe every believer is called to share the gospel and make disciples of all nations. God ordains and empowers ministers to preach, teach, and equip the body for the work of the Great Commission.

Matthew 28:19–20 · Ephesians 4:11–12 · Romans 10:14–15
16

Divine Providence

We believe God sovereignly governs all creation with wisdom, love, and purpose. He works all things together for good to those who love Him, guiding history toward His ultimate plan of redemption and restoration.

Romans 8:28 · Psalm 103:19 · Isaiah 46:10
17

Prayer & Intercession

We believe in the power of prayer and are called to a life of intercession. Through prayer we communicate with God, align with His will, and move mountains. Prayer is the heartbeat of the believer and the church.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 · Philippians 4:6–7 · James 5:16
18

Tithing & Offerings

We believe God's plan for financing His kingdom is through the faithful stewardship of tithes and offerings. Generous giving is an act of worship, trust, and partnership with God's mission in the world.

Malachi 3:10 · 2 Corinthians 9:6–7 · Luke 6:38
19

The Second Coming of Christ

We believe in the literal, physical, and imminent return of Jesus Christ. His second coming will be visible and glorious, bringing judgment for the world and the establishment of His eternal kingdom.

Acts 1:11 · 1 Thessalonians 4:16–17 · Revelation 19:11–16
20

The Millennium

We believe Jesus Christ will reign for a thousand years on earth following His return. The Millennial Kingdom will be a time of peace, righteousness, and the fulfillment of God's ancient covenant promises.

Revelation 20:1–6 · Isaiah 9:6–7 · Zechariah 14:9
21

The Resurrection & Final Judgment

We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead. The righteous will be resurrected to eternal life in God's presence, while the unrighteous will face eternal separation from God in the lake of fire.

John 5:28–29 · 1 Corinthians 15:51–54 · Revelation 20:11–15
22

Heaven & Eternal Life

We believe in a literal heaven — the eternal dwelling place of God and all who have received salvation through Jesus Christ. Heaven is a place of perfect joy, worship, fellowship, and the fullness of God's glory forever.

John 14:2–3 · Revelation 21:1–4 · 1 Corinthians 2:9

What Makes Foursquare, Foursquare

In 2012, the global Foursquare community identified six distinctives that define us as a movement — commitments we hold in common across hundreds of cultures worldwide.

Distinctive 01
🤝

Kingdom Partnerships

We work alongside other Christians and churches. We are a distinct movement, but hold a collegial, cooperative spirit with all who share in the gospel mission.

Distinctive 02
📖

Sound Doctrine

The Declaration of Faith guides our practice and polity. Deeply rooted in Scripture as the sole source of spiritual authority, it applies to all members and all churches.

Distinctive 03
🏆

Empowering Leadership

We intentionally prepare and release men and women across generations, cultures, and backgrounds into all positions of leadership and areas of ministry.

Distinctive 04
❤️

Family Relationships

We relate to each other with love in our global family, acknowledging that relationships are the heart of God's Kingdom — with grace, cooperation, and mutual submission.

Distinctive 05
🔥

Spirit Empowerment

As a Spirit-filled movement, we consistently minister the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and encourage believers to fully express His gifts in daily life and ministry.

Distinctive 06
🌍

Shared Mission

We multiply disciples, leaders, churches, and national movements — holding to God's passion for the lost through evangelism, mercy ministries, and global church planting.

Fundamental Christian Beliefs

In addition to our Foursquare distinctives, Community Life stands with the whole historic Christian Church on these foundational truths held by believers across all generations.

✝️

The Atonement

Jesus Christ died as the substitute for sinners — bearing our guilt, satisfying God's justice, and reconciling us to the Father through His blood shed on the cross.

Romans 5:8 · 1 Peter 2:24 · Isaiah 53:5
📿

Justification by Faith

God declares sinners righteous by faith alone, in Christ alone. We are not made right with God by good works but by trusting in the finished work of Jesus.

Romans 3:24–25 · Galatians 2:16 · Romans 4:5
🌅

The Resurrection of Christ

Jesus physically rose from the dead on the third day, conquering sin and death forever. The resurrection is the cornerstone of Christian faith — without it, our faith is in vain.

1 Corinthians 15:3–4 · Luke 24:6 · Romans 1:4
🌐

The Great Commission

Every follower of Jesus is commanded to go and make disciples of all nations — baptizing them and teaching them to obey all that Christ commanded. This is the mission of the church.

Matthew 28:18–20 · Acts 1:8 · Mark 16:15
🏛️

The Communion of Saints

We believe in the spiritual community of all true believers — living and departed — united in Christ. The Church is one body across time, nations, and generations.

Hebrews 12:1 · Ephesians 4:4–6 · Revelation 7:9
🕊️

The Ministry of the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit convicts of sin, draws people to Christ, indwells all believers, produces the fruit of the Spirit, and distributes spiritual gifts for the building up of the body.

John 16:8 · Galatians 5:22–23 · 1 Corinthians 12:7
🛡️

The Security of the Believer

We believe genuine believers are secure in God's hand. Nothing — not death, life, angels, nor principalities — can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus.

Romans 8:38–39 · John 10:28–29 · Philippians 1:6
💎

The Dignity of Every Person

Every human being is made in the image of God with inherent dignity and worth. We affirm the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death and call the church to reflect God's love to all people.

Genesis 1:27 · Psalm 139:13–14 · Acts 17:26
